The CO2 Deal
1. Burning wood is a chemical reaction between O2 and the hydrocarbons in the wood. When sufficient heat is introduced the oxygen and hydrocarbons burn....
2. This burning results in water, CO2, and other chemical byproducts we call smoke. Smoke is the result of those hydrocarbons that were not completely burned.
3. So yes, a tree does take in CO2 and produce Oxygen. But the C is trapped in the tissue and wood of the tree with in the presence of heat will re-bound with O2 in the air.
